Four months after fighting Marcus Hamilton with Angel, Connor has settled into a fairly normal life (with the occassional vampire slayage). But a new vampire leader named Clarice has plans for Connor. He is called into action with help from a Watcher sent by Angel... Andrew Wells.

Connor and Andrew are trying to settle into a Boyslayer-Watcher dynamic, but their personalities keep clashing. When an incorporeal life sucker arrives on campus, they have to put their differences aside to fight it.

Connor's roommates become more nervous about his secrecy. When Clarice is sent after Connor's friends, he has to tell them the truth before he loses them.

• Salome and Connor eat at the Doublemeat Palace, a place introduced in the episode of the same name. Salome comments that the "Meat Process" makes her nervous. In Doublemeat Palace, Buffy believes the Meat Process is made of people.
• Salome's aliases are Mallory, Beckett and Wagner. Each of them come from a Sci-Fi character famous for traveling through space or time; Quinn Mallory ("Sliders"), Sam Beckett ("Quantum Leap") and Kurt Wagner (Nightcrawler from "X-Men")
• Salome is fired from her job at the CoHo due to her job as a demon hunter.
• Wolfram and Hart has files on not only Connor, but Andrew and Salome.
• The hockey jersey Salome dons after her fight is an adult version of the jersey Angel bought baby Connor in "Loyalty".
• Jamie and Jules' father is a lawyer for Wolfram and Hart's New York Offices.
• Wesley calls Clarice's ability to kill both a "gift" and "art". "Death is your art" and "Death is your gift" were both used to in reference to Buffy in Season Five of Buffy. This hints at her lineage as a Slayer.

• From this episode onwards, Kou Shibasaki (Oni Kato) appears in every episode.

Salome is sent on a mission to retrieve the lost Nyazian Scrolls. But her search leads her to an old rival. Connor must help a mourning Jamie.

Tucker Wells arrives in Palo Alto to visit Andrew. But the elder Wells hasn't had the same enlightenment as his brother. When Connor, Salome and Lorne begin to act strangely, it's up to Andrew to solve the mystery.

Jealousy is sparked when Salome becomes interested in a charming, young artist. But behind the sweet artistic sensitivity lies a dark secret.

• Connor and Salome officially become a couple.
• Percy is the name of the bad guy. In mythology Perseus defeated the Gorgons.
• For the second time in the series, Salome goes through a glass window.
• Salome is revealed to be from Canada. Anna Paquin (Salome), Brendan Fehr (Percy) and Emcee (Writer) were born in Canada.
• Music: Lorne sings "When A Man Loves a Woman". Connor sings "Layla".
• The boys have transferred into a low-rent apartment, following Clarice's break-in.

Wesley and the Circle of the Black Thorn are determined to change the world. Connor is running against the clock to stop them. He's got new help in his battle: Rona, the Vampire Slayer. But the Circle of the Black Thorn was counting on it.

• This episode marks the creation of the Hellmouth under Palo Alto.
• Reoccurring villainess Clarice is staked in this episode.
• Music: Connor and Salome make out while listening to "We Laugh Indoors" by Death Cab for Cutie.

Three have died and there's now a Hellmouth under Palo Alto. Connor must deal with an influx of demonic activity, Salome's mysterious illness and the continuing threat of the Circle. A visit from Wolfram and Hart's former femme fatale may change the balance.

• The entire episode is one continious scene from Connor's point of view.
• The vampires Phil and Gary is a reference to Ryan Stiles and Colin Mocherie from "Whose Line is it Anyway", who often called each other Phil and Gary.
• This is the only episode in which Salome appears in only her demon form.

While Connor and his friends struggle to save Wesley, the First Evil decides to play with their minds. Old enemies and friends return, reminding them of past sins.

• "Memento Mori" has two meanings: One is an object intended as a reminder that humans die, and a reminder of the fact that humans fail and make mistakes.
• This episode features the largest number of guest stars ever assembled for a single episode of "The Nyazian Prophecies".

• It is also revealed that Dana ("Damage") committed suicide.
• Salome has a third form: when under extreme stress, she develops purple veins on her face.
• The heroes in Palo Alto are cut off from the rest of the Council by a spell.
• Two of the demons Connor kills at Cyvus Vail's resurrection are Vahrall demons. They tried to open the Hellmouth in the Buffy episode "Doomed".

At Caritas, Lorne recounts the story of how Connor and his friends tried to reverse Cyvus Vail's spell and his decision in how involved he should be in fighting evil.

• The title of this episode come from the (misquoted) Casablanca line "Play it Again, Sam". In fact, the lines in Casablanca are "Play it, Sam. Play 'As Time Goes By'" and "You played it for her, you can play it for me!"
• Laura Silverman is an old-timer in the Buffyverse, having appeared as far back as "What's My Line Pt 1" as a vampire. She also appeared as a Cordette in "The Wish", a student in "The Freshmen" and Girl in a car in "Five by Five". Here she reprises her most famous role as Sophie, Buffy's friend from the Doublemeat Palace, from "Older and Farther Away".
• Music: Lorne sings "As Time Goes By", Wesley and Oni sing "Help".

Burned out from research, Andrew takes a break and joins an all-too-real Role Playing Game on campus. Connor and Salome's relationship takes the next step.

• The man Faith and Connor are killing in Wesley's dream is Deputy Mayor Allan Finch-- who Faith killed in "Bad Girls".
• The triumphant return of the Cheese Man!
• Wesley announces he will not remain in Palo Alto after Cyvus Vail is defeated-- dashing hopes of Alexis Denisof being a regular in S2.
• Characters cut for time/pacing in Wesley's dreams: Angel, Gunn, Roger Wyndam-Pryce, Justine and Giles.

On the anniversary of the Nyazian Massacre, Salome must accept her destiny by telling Connor the terrible secret she's hidden for ten years.

• Salome's siblings are Samara, Sivan, Kaleb and Kitra. Samara and Sivan were born in the same litter as Salome. Her mother's name is Moriah. Salome's birth name is Salome Carr.
• Anna Paquin plays both her regular role of Salome Simpson and that of Salome's twin, Samara Carr.
• Salome's rite of passage (the Ba-Mat) was supposed to take place on May 2nd, 1995, making her birthday October 13th, 1979.
• Salome and Azriel were married on April 26th, 1995. The Nyazian Massacre took place on April 27th, 1995 (April 27th is also Emcee's birthday).
• The Nyazian culture had a Caste System. The Castes included the Council of Elders (Nyazians who have ascended to a higher plane), the Ma-Kai (Nyazians who use their powers as warriors) and the Ma-Us (Nyazians who use their powers passively).
• The song Azriel sings is "Sally Simpson" by the Who, from the rock opera "Tommy". It is a song about a girl whose unwavering love leads to her injury.

A translated passage of the Nyazian Prophecie reveals Connor must face Cyvus Vail in the next forty-eight hours... Or Vail will be able to raise an army of thousands. So Connor decides to enjoy a final day of life.

• This episode is notable for two reasons: One, there are absolutely no fight scenes. Two, all of the guest stars are "special guest stars".

• Anna Paquin again takes on the duel role of Salome and Samara.
• Jules was buried in Palo Alto, in the same cementary as Rona.

• Salome refers to Illyria as "our god", confirming the relationship Illyria and the Nyazians hinted at in "Rogue" and "Honour and Obey".

Connor is reunited with his father, but celebrations are cut short when Salome collapses. Father and son must work together to save her life.

• Jewel Staite (Macayle Stewart) is better known as Kaylee Frye from "Firefly". Also, Jewel is Canadian, continuing TNP tradition of Can Con.
• In the first season of TNP, Kou Shibasaki (Oni Kato) appeared by all but two episodes-- 1x01: Resurrection and 1x03: Complications. She is a regular in season two.
• This marks Wesley's return to the Watcher's Council.
• Oni becomes a Watcher in Training.
• The Hellmouth in Palo Alto is technically known as the "Western Hellmouth".
• The Slayer's School is located in Oxford, England, on top of the Eastern Hellmouth.
• While Connor and Co are in England, Kennedy and some Slayer Students are deployed from the Central Hellmouth in Cleveland.
• Connor announces that Jamie will be going to MIT for the summer, Salome will go to Sao Paolo with Willow, Oni will remain in England, Andrew will go back to Palo Alto while his own plans are uncertain.
